Why use this Discord Markdown Live Preview?

Preview before posting

See the message in a Discord-style channel layout while you type.

Catch common mistakes

Warnings identify unmatched emphasis, spoiler, inline-code, and fenced-code markers.

Stay within the message limit

Track Discord's standard 2,000-character message limit while editing.

Test current Discord syntax

Try headers, subtext, masked links, multi-line quotes, lists, and code blocks.

Personalize the preview

Set a channel, username, avatar initials, and avatar color for realistic context.

Keep the original source

Copy Discord-ready Markdown after reviewing the rendering and warnings.

Discord Markdown syntax and validation

Discord Markdown Live Preview combines a message editor with a syntax validator. Use it to learn Discord formatting, debug pasted Markdown, or check a generated message before it is posted. For templates and a full composition toolbar, use Discord Text Formatting.

Inline formatting markers normally work in pairs. If a message opens bold text with ** or a spoiler with || but never closes it, punctuation may remain visible or the rest of the message may render unexpectedly. The validator ignores escaped characters and fenced code while checking common markers.

Discord also supports line-level syntax. Headers begin with #, ##, or ###; -# creates subtext; > creates a single-line quote; >>> quotes everything that follows; and list markers must begin a line. Masked links use [label](URL).

The character counter follows Discord's standard 2,000-character message limit. Some servers, accounts, bot messages, and integrations can use different limits, so the final Discord client remains the authority.

Use these examples in the editor above. The validator checks common paired markers and line-start rules while the preview shows the expected Discord message structure.

The checker catches common syntax mistakes but does not replace final testing for embeds, mentions, custom emoji, bot output, or every nested combination. Compare current syntax with Discord's official Markdown guide.

Practical examples

Highlighted code block

Add a language identifier to a fenced code block.

Important limitations

Warnings detect common unmatched markers and missing line-syntax spaces, not every semantic or nesting error.

The preview does not execute mentions, custom emoji, slash commands, embeds, or bot interactions.

Discord client updates can change final rendering without changing the Markdown source.

Code block colors, links, embeds, and webhook-specific formatting still require final testing in Discord.

FAQ

What is Discord Markdown?

It is Discord's text-formatting syntax for emphasis, quotes, lists, code, spoilers, and other message structures.

Why use a live preview?

A live preview helps you see whether markers are paired and whether the message hierarchy reads clearly before you send it.

Does Discord support standard Markdown?

Discord supports a useful subset plus Discord-specific behavior. It does not implement every feature found in full Markdown processors.

What does an unmatched marker mean?

It means an opening marker such as ** or || does not have a corresponding closing marker in the current source.

Can this check every Discord Markdown error?

No. It checks common unmatched markers and previews supported syntax, but complex nesting, embeds, mentions, and bot-specific output still require final testing in Discord.

Does this editor enforce Discord's character limit?

It tracks the standard 2,000-character message limit and warns when the source exceeds it. Discord may apply different limits to some accounts, bots, or integrations.

Is my Discord message uploaded anywhere?

No. Editing, previewing, and validation happen locally in your browser. The tool does not send your message to Discord.

How is this different from Discord Text Formatting?

This page focuses on learning and validating syntax. Discord Text Formatting focuses on composing complete messages with templates and a toolbar.
